October's Rec Center of the Month selection takes us to New York City, home of the Chelsea Recreation Center.
Thank you to all the volunteers who came out and helped out at the Westford Rec Center Campaign info table on Saturday. The Food Truck Festival went very well and there was a lot of interest in the campaign. Volunteers were even interviewed by the Westford CAT!
Next Saturday is the inaugural Westford Food Truck Festival at the Abbott School. We are still looking for volunteers to help with running our table promoting the Westford Recreation Center campaign. This event is sure to a be fun time. Please come and enjoy lots of activities as well as great food.

We are going to be participating in 2 great Fall activities this year and would welcome help with staffing our information booth. On Sept 21st from 11 to 4 pm we will be at Westford's 5th Annual Forge Pond Fun Regatta and Family Fun Festival. For more information about the event please see here.

Well it is back to school time for the kids but that does not mean the Westford Rec Center Campaign has slowed down. Our Rec Center of the Month is the Schaumburg Park District Community Recreation Center
How nice would it be to have something like this in our town. Especially during those cold winter months.
Sunday August 24th the Westford Friends of Recreation ran an information tent at the Pig N Pepper festival. In addition the group volunteered their time to run the Veggie Derby. For those of you who are unfamiliar with what a Veggie Derby is it is the creation of cars made from vegetable and raced down a track.
The booth was very busy and people had loads of fun. We received lots of support for our campaign to bring a rec center to Westford.
On Sunday August 24th, the Westford Friends of Recreation will be at the Pig N' Pepper Festival held the Nashoba Valley Ski Area. The Friends will be hosting an information table in an effort to get out the word about our campaign to bring a recreation center to Westford. We will also be running a Veggie Derby so festival goers can try their hand and making and racing cars made out of vegetables. During the Summer of 2014 The Westford Friends of Recreation have a number of volunteer opportunities for people who would like to help support the organization.
The Friends are currently working on a campaign to bring a recreation and community center to Westford. As part of that effort the Friends are planning on staffing an informational booth at a number of community events. We need help to help cover each of these events. The 4th Annual Strategic Planning Retreat will be held at Kimball Farm on June 19, 2014 at 5:30PM (registration starts at 5:15 pm).
This is a superb chance for supporters of recreation in Westford to make their opinions known about what recreational opportunities the town should be focusing on in the next decade.

Despite the prediction of poor weather, the 2014 Apple blossom parade and carnival was a great success. Congratulations to the Westford Kiwanis for putting together yet another great event.
