The survey is located at http://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WestfordRecreation
Even if you participated in the public input sessions earlier this year it is important that you take a few minutes and complete the survey.
The survey will be available for a few weeks. After the survey has been closed the data will be analyzed and incorporated into the recreation master plan. The master plan should be completed in early 2016.
The Rec Center Campaign and Recreation Master Plan public input sessions were featured in a Westford Eagle article this week. If you have not read the article you may do so here.

The Westford Parks and Recreation Department & Commission are in the process of developing an updated recreation master plan for the town. This plan will help guide the Town in determining what the recreation needs and desires are of the town residents.

The Rec Center Campaign logo contest winner was Westford Academy student Dylan Crocker. Dylan's design incorporated the outline of Westford with various athletic icons to create a unique logo for the Rec Center Campaign. Thank you Dylan for the hard work!

It has been a while since our last update. Hopefully everyone is holding up well after all this snow. It would be nice if there was a recreation center in town that would allow us to get out of the house, get some exercise and connect with fellow residents.
Over the last few months an RFP for creating the town’s next recreation master plan went out. In January, the Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed proposals and selected a firm to produce the plan. The Board of Selectmen voted to support the Parks and Recreation Commission’s selection at their meeting on Feb 10th. The contract for the master plan work should be awarded by the end of this month and starting in March the Parks and Recreation Commission will be meeting with the firm to set up a timeline for implementation.
Included in the many steps that will go into creating the master plan will be a few public meetings. These will be critical opportunities for residents to voice their support for a recreation center. The next goal of the Westford Friends of Recreation will be to help advertise these public meetings and we will depend upon those of you who have been eager to support the rec center campaign to help get the word out to friends and neighbors. As soon as we know what the dates will be for the public input meetings will we’ll let you know.
For those of you who might be willing to go above and beyond here are a few opportunities for you to do so:
1) The Westford Friends of Recreation is looking for 1-2 additional board members. Typically this will involve 1 meeting per month as well as participation in outreach events and some project work. Your time commitment can be as large or small as you like. Having marketing, advertising, fund raising or legal experience is a plus, but anyone who is eager to help with improving recreational opportunities in Westford would be welcome. If interested, please fill out the WFOR volunteer form: http://www.westfordfriendsofrecreation.org/volunteer
2) Parks and Recreation Commission opening. The Town is looking for a candidate to serve as an alternate board member. Typically there is 1 board meeting a month (usually none during the summer) and the work required outside the board meeting is manageable. This is a great opportunity to serve your community. If you have any interest in this position please fill out a Citizen Activity Form at https://data.westfordma.gov/bc/newcaf.php
3) WFOR special project help. We need to send out a town wide mailing and are seeking help with the design of the mailing. If you are good with graphic design, marketing, advertising, etc and would like to help us design the mailing we would love to hear from you. Send an email to email@example.com if interested.
At the beginning of the summer, a dedicated group of Westford residents came together in an effort to establish a recreation and community center in Westford. First, the group formalized under the auspices of the Westford Friends of Recreation (WFOR), a registered non-profit for over a decade, with hopes of imitating the success of WFOR’s last active project - the creation of the turf fields at Nutting Road. Secondly, the Friends rolled out a new website to facilitate communication and media presence. From June through August, as part of our outreach strategy, we participated in numerous events such as Westford’s Strategic Planning day, the weekly Farmer’s Market and the Pig N Pepper Fest. At these events it was always uplifting to see people’s excitement about a new recreation center in Westford!Read more
Design a logo for the Westford Friends of Recreation's campaign to establish a recreation center in Westford. The winner will receive $50 and have their logo displayed on campaign media such as emails, website, banners, presentations etc. This is a great opportunity to help enhance recreation in our community.
